When I moved to Sweden last year I googled "Speaking English in Sweden" because at that stage I couldn't speak a word of it. I got some interesting results the most interesting of them being TheLocal.se. It's a site for english speakers in Sweden covering moving there, working there, living there etc. However the most amusing thing I noticed was the sort of thing that makes the news over in the land of Europop! Here's just some of the latest news stories:

TEACHER WARNED FOR RACIST REMARKS
"Cleaning is not something for nice white girls," according to a teacher from Sandviken in eastern Sweden. On Thursday she received a formal warning.

TEEN REPORTED FOR SEX ATTACK ON DOG
A teenager in western Sweden has been reported for having sex with his friend's dog in his bathroom. The dog owner reported the incident to the police.

MESSAGE IN BOTTLE TRAVELS 500 METRES IN 24 YEARS
Three girls from the south east of Sweden had high hopes or international communication when they launched a message in a bottle in 1983. But they didn't make it much further than the neighbours.

TRANSVESTITE THUMPS POLICEMAN FOR TAKING WIG
A drunken young transvestite has been fined for assaulting a policewoman after she asked him to remove his wig.

TOWN SETTLES ROW OVER PINOCCHIO STATUE
Borås council has approved the erection of a large statue of Pinocchio, after a debate that split the town in two. The 8.5 metre statue is to be made by American pop artist Jim Dine.

AL FRESCO SEX 'WAS EPILEPTIC SEIZURE'
A man in his twenties and 49-year-old woman have each received fines for disorderly behaviour after a court failed to believe their creative excuses when found having sex in public.
